These don’t belong to me, but to one of the “attention whores” I was talking about a few posts ago. When this photo came across my dash, I just couldn’t help but comment, so. Why do I judge a person by a single photo? Why do I consider her an attention whore?</p> <p>1. She’s taking a picture of her wounds and uploading it on the fucking internet, where everyone can see it. I understand if people share pictures of their very deep cuts or bad scars to shock the viewers so they don’t even consider starting to cut or just write about their problem, but if someone shows off scratches it seems like they want to be part of a competition. This picture almost screams: “Look, they’re so deep, these are the worst I’ve ever made, omg, I’m getting better … uhm … I mean worse!” </p> <p>2. The description. Look at the fucking description. She “was so close to having to get stitches last week”. I needed to look at the picture twice - where did she need to get stitches? I only saw these scratches. Then it said that “they’re still quite red”, which means, she’s actually refering to the scratches. Another sign that she wants to make the viewer/reader believe that her injuries are really bad, better/worse than others, that she’s really sick, blablah. From a medical point of view, you only need to get stitches if the wound is ~5mm deep or wide; of course it’s also depending on the length etc. But you don’t need to be a doctor to be able to say: “This doesn’t even need a patch.”</p> <p>3. She cuts on her left forearm. That’s the most stupid place ever. You only cut there if you want people to notice and, right, <em>pay attention</em>. </p> <p>Seriously. I don’t get why people chose this way to get attention or “scream for help”. Usually your surroundings at a) really mad at you, which makes everything just worse or b) don’t give a fuck about it. Nobody is going to pity you or give you love or whatever just because you slit yourself up. Our society considers this behavior <em>sick</em>. Nobody likes <em>sick</em> people. I’m sorry if I sound rude, but that’s just the brutal truth and every self-harmer will agree with me. That’s probably why most people I know stopped when they discovered that they don’t get the “positive” reactions or attention they craved for.
